Confined

Confined

The
Two
Escapees
Lately
News,
Pursued,
Hiding,
Running,
Lost
In
Tangled
Woods.
Doomed,
These
Two
Tall
Men
Of
Tricks
And
Sin,
Smart,
Wily,
Cunning,
They
Should
Have
Ruled
Wall
Street,
Or
The
Halls
Of
Power
Like
Other
Raptors,
Instead
Of
Jailed
Forever
By
Their
Captors.
What
I see
Is
Pitiable
To
Me.
Chosen
Or
Given,
They
Have
Lived
As
Murderous
Slaves,
Imprisoned
In
Themselves
Until
The
Grave.

It
Has
Been
Said,
By
Somebody
Dead,
That
We
Live
In
A
Nation
That
Has
Gone
From
Progress
To
Decline
Without
The
Intervening
Civilization.
I fear
This
Is
So,
Which
Gives
Me
Pain,
Because,
Having
Nowhere
Else
To
Go,
I must
Remain.
I have
No
Carefree
Desert
Isle,
So
This
Patch
Of
Sand
Will
Suit
My
Style,
As
I write
Myself
Away
From
The
Calamity
Of
Today.

Detritus

The
Garbage
Trucks
Groan
And
Squeak
Down
The
Street
Once
A
Week,
Keeping
Things
Neat.
The
Job
Is
Grey,
But
We
All
Must
Dispose
Of
Yesterday,
And
Men
Need
Their
Pay.
I strive
To
Limit
What
I throw
Away,
But
Contribute
Heavily
To
Landfill
Disarray,
And
Empty
Continents
Of
Trees,
Using
All
The
Paper
Goods
I please.
When
My
Expiration
Date
Arrives,
Waste
Vehicles
Will
Come
In
Haste,
To
Fetch
Me
In
My
Faded
Party
Dress,
And
Add
My
Body
To
The
Earthly
Mess.

A
Distinct
Possibility
That
The
Heat
May
Reach
103.
This
Renders
Haste
A
Definite
Waste.
At
102
I find
Plenty
To
Do,
And
At
101,
Still
Have
Fun.
But
103?
Mercy
Me.
Have
Some
Iced
Tea.

Comparison

The
Local
News
Gives
Me
The
Mean
Blues.
Things
Are
Tough
In
The
Whole
U.S.
But
Here
In
Albuquerque,
They’re
A
Mess.
We
Have
Crooks
That
Will
Steal
Your
Bones
And
Every
Thing
Else
You
Own,
In
Dead
Of
Night,
Or
Broad
Daylight.

However,
There’s
Plenty
Of
Hexes
Next
Door
In
Texas,
And
Heavy
Vexation
In
The
Texican
Nation.
Tornado,
Flood,
Endless
Mud,
And
Patriotic
Sons
With
Guns.

I’ll
Take
My
Chances
With
Rapacious
Thieves,
The
Bastards
Never
Leave.
I’d
Rather
That
Tug
Of
War,
Than
Battle
Deadly
Weather
Under
The
Lone
Star.

Destruction

I knock
Down
The
Spiders
Fragile
Living
Room
With
The
Broom.
Now
I’ve
Spoiled
What
All
Night
He
Toiled
To
Weave,
But
I won’t
Grieve.
No
Unwary
Fly
Will
Die
In
My
Doorway
Today.
To
Keep
Other
Arachnid
Away,
I’ll
Use
My
Death
Spray.

Short
Tailed,
Broad
Based
On
Spindle
Legs,
The
Humble
Starling
Lands
Sideways
In
A
Tumble.
Iridescent
Green
Black
Brown
Plumage
Glistens
As
It
Hunts,
Mimics,
Whistles,
Grunts
And
Mocks,
Searching
The
Hummocks
For
Prey,
The
Wild
Grass
A
Tangle,
Then
Abruptly
Flies
Away
At
An
Obtuse
Angle.

Maintenance

The
Sun
In
New
Mexico
Tends
To
Dry
Rot
Tires
On
The
Classic
Car
I’ve
Got.
It
Rolls
On
Four
Costly
Pirelli’s
The
Desert
Slowly
Converts
To
Jelly.
It’s
A
Tricky
Fix,
Navigating
On
Wheels
Reduced
To
Pancake
Mix,
And
Can
Ruin
The
Day
If
I’m
Speeding
On
Down
The
Highway.
It
Takes
Cash,
But
I won’t
Risk
A
Crash,
That
Would
Be
Wrong.
So
Long,
I’m
Off
To
The
Tire
Store
To
Buy
Some
More.

The Effort

Struggling
Today,
Looking
For
A
Way.
My
Editor
Is
Sitting
On
My
Book.
I don’t
Like
The
Outlook.
My
Painting
Baffles
Me,
So
How
Can
Anybody
See
This
Glimpse
Into
The
Heart
Of
Me?
Every
Day
I seek
The
Plastic
Grail,
Begging
Silent
Gods
Not
To
Fail,
Making
My
Audacious
Mark,
Working
Constantly
In
The
Dark.
