Counsel

He’s
A
Villain,
But
Pursue
Him
If
You
Must.
He’ll
Suck
Up
Clean
Love
And
Give
Back
Dust,
Eat
The
Loaf
And
Leave
You
The
Crust.
He’s
Tall
And
Darkly
Handsome,
But
Will
Hold
Your
Heart
For
Ransom,
So
Go
Ahead
And
Take
The
Chance
This
Bounders
Trade
Is
True
Romance.
Give
Him
Your
All,
Then
He
Won’t
Answer
Your
Anxious
Call.
The
Next
Time
You
Meet,
He’ll
Cross
The
Street,
Avert
His
Eye,
And
Pass
You
By.
You’ll
Soon
See
How
Cruel
And
Wicked
He
Can
Be,
And
Come
Back
To
Me.

The
City
Of
Albuquerque
Has
Cited
Me
For
“Weeds
Taller
Than
Four
Inches
”
In
My
Alley.
Fie!
It’s
The
Wenches
Down
The
Block
Who
Deserve
This
Legalistic
Shock.
I have
Only
One!
True,
It’s
Grown
To
A
Husky
Height,
Practically
Overnight,
But
A
Letter
Is
Mighty
Direct,
Smacking
Of
Urban
Neglect
And
To
Boot,
Including
A
Threat
To
Prosecute
If
I don’t
Do
The
Civic
Deed
And
Fail
To
Weed.
‘Oh
Tempora,
Oh,
Mores
’
As
Said
By
Cicero.
I must
Go
To
The
Alley,
And
Mow.

Wood
Smoke
And
The
River
Near.
Three
Small
Stars
Pierced
The
Blanket
Above
As
We
Fell
Out
Of
Love.
After
That
Final
Night,
We
Ate
Bitter
Pears
By
Waning
Moonlight.
Fall
Descended
And
Ended
All.

Dish
Network
Is
Out
Of
Whack,
With
Music
Titles
Given
To
The
Wrong
Tracks.
Nothing
I say
Or
Do
Gets
The
Robots
To
Come
Through
With
What
I pay
Them
To
Do,
Give
Me
The
Song,
And
Don’t
Get
It
Wrong.
I listen
While
I paint,
Or
Eat
My
Food,
Or
Regard
The
Condition
Of
My
Yard
And
Find
It
Agony
To
See
Chopin
Labeled
Debussy.
These
Errors
Cause
Me
Angry
Grief,
Although
I know
Dish
Network
Is
Mindless,
And
An
Inept
Electronic
Thief.

I’d
Like
To
Make
A
Little
Rhyme
To
Play
And
Ease
The
Way,
But
I’ve
No
Time.
Tons
To
Do,
And
When
I’m
Through,
The
Dentist
Waits
To
Tell
Me
My
Toothsome
Fate.
For
Now,
This
Must
Suffice,
But
I’ll
Keep
The
Rest
Of
My
Thoughts
On
Ice,
Until
I’m
Back
On
Track.

I wandered
The
Trails
Of
Home
Depot
Yesterday,
Looking
For
Nails
And
Screws,
And
Discovered
The
Fasteners
My
Father
Used
To
Secure
His
Picture
Frames,
Short
Metal
Zigzags.
And
I saw
Again
His
Garage
Studio
Long
Ago,
The
Fragrant
Clutter,
Years
Between
A
Translucent
Layer
Of
Glazes
In
Successive
Phases.
I use
Staples,
Fired
Into
The
Wood
At
High
Pressure,
But
I might
Add
A
Zigzag,
Just
For
Good
Measure.

'In Wood' Carved Cherry 48" Tall 68 lbs.
Working

I didn’t
Will
It,
But
I’m
Frying
Too
Many
Fish
In
My
Skillet.
I see
Another
Project
And
Pounce,
To
Carve
Out
Another
Artistic
Ounce,
Sand,
Paint,
Fashion
Stretcher
Bars
And
Touch
Up
The
Scratches
On
My
Car.
Soon
I have
Six
Tasks
Going
At
Once.
In
Between,
I write,
I’m
Toiling
Half
The
Night!
My
Dentist
Wants
A
Piece
Of
Me,
The
House
Extracts
A
Daily
Fee,
But
What
The
Hell,
Its
Going
Pretty
Well,
And
I achieve
A
Decent
Flow.
Busy.
Gotta
Go.

Expert
Climbers
Go
Up
The
Mountain,
Reach
The
Crest,
And
Never
Return.
Cars
Remain
Parked,
Vital
Gear
Is
Left
Behind,
And
Later,
Rescue
Crews
Find
Where
They’ve
Landed.
Friends
Express
Woe,
And
Have
No
Way
To
Know
Why.
Jumped
Or
Fell?
Who
Can
Tell?
In
Japan,
There
Is
A
Forest
Where
Old
Folks
Go
To
Die.
Here,
We
Have
The
Wilderness.
It
Will
Beckon,
Take
You,
And
For
Long
Seconds
You
Can
Fly,
Without
A
Thought
Of
Goodbye.

ELIZABETH
NM State Fair

Yesterday
I went
To
The
Fair,
And
Joined
The
Throngs
There.
Little
Children
On
Papa’s
Back
Or
In
Strollers
Fitted
Out
Like
Cadillacs,
Took
In
The
Fun
While
Baking
In
The
Sun.
Heat
Shimmered
As
I strolled,
Anointed
In
A
Scented
Fold
Of
Lemonade,
Fried
Alligator
And
Corndogs,
Seeking
Precious
Shade.
My
Only
Child,
Still
Youthfully
Wild,
Took
A
Ride
That
Twirled
Her
Upside
Down,
Seven
Stories
Off
The
Ground.
I waited
Below,
Watching
Her
Take
The
Reckless
Chance,
While
I did
The
Tense
Parental
Dance.
We
Saw
It
All
And
Left,
Footsore.
Next
Year,
We’ll
Come
Back
For
More.

Detail: Mme. de Pompadour by Francois Boucher

Reverie

Memories
Threaten
To
Carry
Me
Back
Where
I don’t
Want
To
Be,
In
A
Landscape
Well
Forgot.
Or
Not.
If
I look
Up
From
My
Book
And
See
The
Past,
It
Doesn’t
Last,
And
I’m
Just
Me,
Caught
In
Another
Century.
I read
On,
Knowing
Old
Times,
Their
Gains
And
Losses,
Are
Gone.
