Yesterday
In
Santa
Fe
The
Sky
Was
Pearl
Grey,
As
Mourners
Paced,
Searching
For
A
Beloved’s
Resting
Place.
I forgot
The
Number
After
All
This
Time,
And
Had
To
Go
Back
And
Forth
To
Bring
It
To
Mind,
And
Find
The
One
Who
Left
Me
Behind.
I got
My
Bearings,
Placed
Fresh
Flowers,
Symbol
Of
My
Caring,
And
Kissed
The
Stone,
Still
Warm
From
A
Sun
Now
Gone.

Concert

The
Conductor
In
His
Penguin
Coat,
Hears
Every
Note,
Beseeches
And
Implores
The
Players,
Begs
And
Demands,
Drawing
The
Music
Forth
By
The
Power
Of
His
Hands,
The
Baton
A
Magic
Wand
To
Fill
The
Space
With
Timeless
Grace.

Landlocked

A
Million
Years
Ago
Today,
An
Ocean
Was
Swept
Away,
To
Leave
This
Piece
Of
Land
Where
I stand.
The
Mountain
Marks
The
Spot
Where
Now
The
Sea
Is
Not,
And
If
You
Look
Well,
You’ll
Find
An
Ancient
Shell
Where
Another
Creature
Used
To
Dwell
Instead
Of
Me,
Abandoned
On
A
Dry
Strand
Of
Forgotten
Sand.

Zounds!

Snow
Falling
On
The
Tender
Buds
Of
Spring,
A
Traitorous
Thing!
It’s
A
Mean
Trick.
If
The
Result
Is
Deep
Frost,
Precious
Flowers
May
Be
Lost.
Alas!
Covering
The
Grass!
Hope
It
Will
Pass.

Shopping

The
Aged
Lady
In
The
Grocery
Aisle
Pauses,
List
In
Hand,
Over
Some
Thing
She
Doesn’t
Under
Stand.
A
Confusion
Troubles
Her,
And
She
Looks
Around,
Up
And
Down.
A
Web
Of
Wrinkles
Form
A
Frown
As
She
Scans
The
Look
Alike
Soup
Cans,
Locates
What
She
Wants
On
The
Cluttered
Shelf,
Triumph
In
Her
Face,
And
Rolls
Her
Cart
Away
With
Fragile
Grace,
All
By
Herself.

Out Of It

I was
Desirous
To
Work
Today,
But
I have
A
Virus.
I think
Its
The
Flu,
So
There’s
Nothing
To
Do
But
Make
It
To
The
Breakfast
Table
As
Soon
As
I’m
Able,
Drink
Hot
Tea
By
The
Quart,
And
Wait
For
The
Return
Of
That
Jolly
Sport,
Me.

Incident

At
The
Market
Today,
An
Older
Man
Ran
Smack
Into
An
Extended
Snack
Rack,
And
Went
Down,
To
Slip
Onto
His
Left
Hip.
Shoppers
Yelped,
Until
The
Manager
Came
To
Help.
The
Fallen
Man
Smiled
And
Was
Affable,
Although
The
Situation
Wasn’t
Laughable,
And
Expressed
No
Confusion
As
To
His
Slight
Contusion.
Having
Nothing
More
To
Say,
He
Stood
Up
And
Walked
Away.
Moral?
Watch
Your
Hips,
And
Don’t
Trip
Over
Misplaced
Potato
Chips.

Day Off

Tra
La,
Its
A
Holiday
For
All
The
Presidents
Who
Have
Gone
Away.
The
Dead
Are
Lumped
Into
A
Mass,
And
Those
Yet
Living
Deserve
A
Pass.
The
One
We
Have
Is
Mired
In
Grief
By
Thieves
We
Hired
To
Represent
The
Citizens
Righteous
Discontent.
A
Flock
Of
Crows
Are
Trading
Blows,
Poised
To
Fill
The
Lofty
Space
As
Guardian
Of
The
Human
Race.
Enjoy
The
Party
And
Your
Brand
Of
Bubbly
Booze,
Soon
Enough
We’ll
Have
To
Choose,
In
Hope
The
Bigger
Fool
Will
Lose.

Bleeding Hearts
Almost Gone

I would
Have
A
Few
Pithy
Things
To
Say,
But
I wrote
Them
Yesterday.
Not
Exactly
Keeping
Score,
Confident
There
Will
Be
More.
But
Today,
I’m
Drawn
Away
To
Lapis
Skies
And
Burnished
Sun,
Spring
A
Tangible
Thing,
Lacing
The
Air
With
Fragile
Green
As
New
Birds
Sing.
Before
It
All
Goes
By,
This
Time
I may
Learn
To
Fly,
If
I hurry
To
Leave
Aside
Winters
Worry.

Faith

New
Buds
On
The
Elm
Tree
Defy
February.
Spring
Will
Steal
The
Weary
Chill,
As
March
Approaches
With
Fragrant
Showers,
To
Fill
My
Barren
Garden
With
Flowers.
