Changes

Monday,
Thick
With
Clouds,
The
Morning
Sun
In
Shrouds.
Fall
Has begun,
Ending
Summer
Fun.
Rain
Is
Predicted,
Troubling
Those
Afflicted
With
Flooded
Fields Of
Grain
And Costly
Chiles.
Bears
Stop
Giving
Hikers
The willies,
And
Retreat
To higher
Ground,
Where
Ripened
Berries
And Nuts
Will be
Found.
Then,
When
Winter
Grows
Deep,
They will
Sleep.
Meantime,
Folks
Will
Yearn
For
Springs
Return.

Hello?

Verizon
Informs me,
With
High-tech
Speed,
That
I’m about
To
Exceed
My plans
Data
Usage.
I consider
This
Verbal
Abusage!
What
Next?
It makes
Me
Very
Vexed,
Since
I paid
For
Unlimited
Talk &
Text.
Now I’ll
Have to
Use
More
Juice,
And give
Them
Some
Excuse.
Likely
I don’t
Understand
The
Blasted
Plan,
And,
How
Wryly
Funny,
Just
Wind
Up
Giving
The beggars
More
Money.

Health Check

Health Check

Up at
Dawn
To go get
Blood
Drawn.
A yearly
Physical
Is very
Quizzical,
But I
Must
Show
I still
Have
Blood
Flow.
After a
Nasty
Poke,
I’m
Given
A
Cup
So small
It’s a
Joke,
And
Sent off
To see
If I can
Pee.
The whole
Ordeal
Is no
Thrill,
But
Finally
I’m
Released,
To go
Have
My
Breakfast
In
Peace.
Now my
Doctor
Can
Tell
If I’m
Okay,
Or sick
As hell.

Injury

Last week,
Not keeping
Track,
I burned
My finger
On the
Oven
Rack.
This certainly
Made me
Wince,
And has
Troubled
Me
Ever since.
Difficult
To
Manage
Such
Hideous
Damage,
And it
Doesn’t
Seem
Fair
That I’m
Still
Holding
The finger
In the
Air.
A Band-Aid
Doesn’t
Quite
Stretch,
And I
Keep
Banging
Into the
Wretch.
Alas,
This
Punishment
Must befit
Someone
Too dumb
To wear
An
Oven
Mitt.

Intrusion

Last night,
At a
Late hour,
I found
A large
Spider
In my
Shower.
I pondered
How to
Get rid
Of this
Pest,
So I
Could
Rest.
I had
To
Dispose
Of the
Creep,
Or how
Could I
Sleep?
I spent
Some time
Trying
To
Scald
Him to
Death,
And held
My breath,
But he
Collapsed
Himself
Into a
Ball,
And took
It all.
Finally I
Used my
Brain,
Flooded
The beast
Down the
Drain,
And put
Over it
A plastic
Cup.
Today,
When I
Got up,
He had
Gone
Away.
If this
Calamity
Happens
To you,
You know
Exactly
What to
Do.

Today

I’m cleaning
The house,
A task
At which
I have
Been
Dilatory.
I’ve stayed
Really
Busy,
But that’s
Another
Story.
Now I
Must
Get in
The
Groove,
Suck up
The dust,
Or move.
So, I’ll
Vacuum,
Brush
And
Fluff,
Until
I feel
I’ve
Done
Enough.
Then,
Satisfied,
Regard
It all
With
Pride,
And
Forget it
Until
Who knows
When,
And
It must
All
Be done
Again.

Morning

Six doves
In the
Front
Yard,
Pacing
Pensively.
Stately,
Formal
Birds,
Dressed
In
Dinner
Clothes
Of black
And
Grey.
Guileless,
With
Patient
Steps
They
Patrol
The
Grass
For
Choice
Morsels,
And by
Their
Massive
Size,
Intimidate
The rowdy
Sparrows.

Transition

Every day
It takes
Minutes
Longer
For
Morning
Grey
To permit
The sunshine
Of the
Day.
Fall fades
The
Blossoms
In my
Keep,
And
Summer
Goes away
To sleep.
Wood smoke
From my
Neighbors
Fire
Will take
The air,
And wind
Will steal
The Mimosa
Leaves.
No one
Grieves
That Fall
Is unfair.
Soon,
Winter
Will be
Everywhere
And
Frost
Will cling,
As I
Wait
For
Spring.

September

The East
Wind
Blows cold
Over the
Mountain
And forms
Clouds,
That
Drape
Over the
Craggy
Shoulders
Like
Shaggy
Fur.
Autumn,
A thief
By trade,
Slips in
The
Door.

Coffee

Never
Too soon
To worry.
Always
Making
Time to
Hurry.
Take a
Break,
What
Difference
Can ten
Minutes
Make?
There I
Find
Mr. Divine,
Waiting in
Line.
Willing to
Take a
Risky
Chance,
I brace
For the
Impact
Of his
Glance.
We lift
Our cups
And drink.
Beautiful,
I think,
As he
Stands up
And walks
Away.
It goes
Like this
Every
Day.
I would
Like
To say
Something
Witty,
To make
Him stay.
But I’m
Not so
Hasty,
And
Instead, I
Order a
Cinnamon
Pastry.
Hard to
Guess,
But I
Might
Still win.
Tomorrow at
Ten-ten,
He’ll
Come
Again.
