Humbug

Humbug

I’ve
Been
Tired
Of
Halloween
Since
September.
Every
Horror
Film
I can
Remember
Has
Been
On
TV,
Just
To
Try
And
Terrify
Me,
But
The
Witches,
Ghouls
And
Vampires
I see
Fill
Me
With
Distinct
Ennui.
Halloween
Soon
Grows
Too
Quirky.
It
Must
Be
Time
For
That
Damn
Turkey.

Lesson

Love
Is
A
Verb,
Not
A
Noun,
Ongoing,
Never
Slowing,
A
Fragrant
Herb,
A
Seed
Growing.
A
Moving
Thing
That
Care
Can
Bring,
In
Motion,
Never
Still,
A
Force
Of
Will.
A
Form
Of
Prayer,
Always
There.
Love
Is
To
Share.

Daybreak

I will
Not
Touch
The
Drape
Where
We
Lay,
And
Thereby,
Escape
The
Day,
Nor
Brood
The
Rude
Sun
Will
Intrude
And
Spirit
Your
Love
Away.
Instead,
Let
Us
Lie
Abed,
Evading
Morning’s
Alarms
And
Stay,
Safe
And
Warm,
In
Each
Other’s
Arms.

Incident

Wreck
On
The
Highway,
Heading
My
Way,
Two
Mile
Delay.
Finally,
A
Silver
Car
Upside
Down,
Crushed,
Doors
Flung
Open,
Litter
On
The
Ground,
Cops
All
Around,
No
One
Inside.
Somebody
Took
A
Ride,
Rushed,
And
Maybe
Died.
The
News
At
Noon
Makes
No
Mention
Of
The
Silver
Car,
Who
They
Were,
Where
They
Are,
Or
What
It
Meant,
Just
Another
Every
Day
Tragic
Accident.

Reverie

Reverie

Often,
I think
Of
Going
Home,
But
I would
Be
A
Stranger
There,
Although
I am
A
Stranger
Everywhere.
All
Those
Folks
I carry
In
My
Head
Are
Long
Since
Dead,
Places
I played
Have
Been
Paved,
And
Nothing
Saved.
The
House
Is
Gone,
And
Now
A
Park
Lawn.
The
River,
Dark
And
Sinister,
Still
Passes
By,
Dragging
Away
Time
With
A
Watery
Sigh,
As
Here
I stay,
Making
Do
With
Today.

Aloft

Pigeons
Circle
In
A
Whirl
Of
Wings,
High
Above
Ordinary
Things,
Twirling
One
Way
Then
The
Other,
Leaving
Behind
Brother
Sparrow,
Whose
Narrow
Flight
Is
Too
Low,
And
Is
Lost
Far
Below,
In
The
Fast
Approaching
Night.

Dry October

*Collared Lizard*
Dry October

The
Weather
Man
Chants
His
Old
Refrain,
Saying
Maybe,
Perhaps,
It
Might
Rain,
But
Every
Day
It
Stays
Far
Away
Or
Spills
Over
Texas,
Just
To
Vex
Us.
Some
Time
The
Aquifer
Will
Brim
With
Tears
From
Desert
Souls
Who
Waited
Years
To
Fill
Their
Cup,
While
Sun
And
Sand
Drank
All
The
Water
Up.

Express

Getting
Old
Is
Like
Waiting
For
A
Train.
I have
Some
Time
As
It
Begins
The
Climb
Up
From
The
Plain
To
Crest
The
Mountain
Top
And
Swoop
Down
Again,
But
It
Is
On
The
Way,
And
Coming
Any
Day.
In
The
Baggage
Car
Are
All
The
Errors
I have
Made
And
Doom
Is
The
Engineer,
But
I am
Not
Afraid,
My
Ticket
Is
Already
Paid.
I’ll
Climb
Aboard
And
Claim
My
Reward,
There’s
Room
For
Me
And
Many
More,
All
Finally
Headed
For
Another
Shore.

Crisis

Just
As
The
Leaves
Are
Turning,
Vast
Woods
Are
Burning
And
President
Jerkoff
Is
Playing
Golf.
The
Republicans
Say
Nothing
To
Condemn
Him,
As
They
Take
Away
Rules
We
Cherish
And
We
Watch
Liberty
Perish.
Victims
Of
Today,
Your
Sorrow
Will
Be
Forgotten
Tomorrow
And
Ignored,
Because
Those
In
Power
Are
Every
Hour
Bored,
And
Do
Not
Care
If
You
Despair.

Friday News

I got
Out
Of
Bed
Without
A
Thing
In
My
Head,
Made
It
To
The
Table
As
Soon
As
I was
Able,
To
Drink
Enough
Tea
To
Restore
The
Essential
Me.
I regarded
The
Day
With
Little
To
Say,
But
Language
Always
Finds
A
Way,
And
Soon
Within
Reach,
Emerges
In
Speech.
Words
Are
A
River
And
I stand
On
The
Shore,
Eager
For
More.
