Penn Station

Down
The
Stairs,
And
Down
The
Stairs
To
The
Tracks,
A
Macramé
Of
Gleaming
Rails,
Shining
In
The
Ozone
Filled
Tunnels
Leading
Away
And
Away.
All
Is
Pent
Up
Heat,
Haste,
And
Oily
Electricity.
The
Metroliner
Shimmers
Silver
And
Aboard,
The
Air
Is
Cushioned
Cool.
Tug,
Shudder,
Movement
And
Forward
In
A
Linked
Column
Of
Passengers
To
Washington.
Up
And
Out
And
Over
The
Jersey
Flats,
Past
A
White
Heron
Poised
Among
The
Green
Slime,
Defying,
Like
Us,
Place
And
Time.

The
Party
Psychic
Chooses
Me
And
Purports
To
See
My
Aura
By
The
Turning
Of
A
Card.
I find
It
Hard
To
Give
Weight
To
Predictions
Of
My
Fate.
I’m
Polite,
But
Doubt
This
Lady
Could
Be
Right.
She’s
Bold,
And
This
Is
Foretold:
‘Nothing
Is
In
Your
Way,
But
You
,’
She
Declares,
As
If
I was
Unaware
Of
This
Generic
Human
Flaw.
I crossed
Her
Palm
With
Festive
Alms,
And
Will
Try
To
Put
It
To
Good
Use,
And
Stay
Loose.

Poem for Arthur Hall

Poem for Arthur Hall

When
I was
Very
Young,
The
World
Was
Green,
But
From
All
I’ve
Seen,
Today
The
View
Is
Gray.
If
We
Are
All
The
Same,
Why
Do
So
Many
Bring
Shame,
Destroy
And
Kill
With
The
Excuse
Its
Some
Gods
Will?
We
Are
NOT
Alike,
I must
Assert,
Many
Seek
Only
To
Hurt.
Their
Souls
Are
Made
Of
Mud,
They
Live
On
Blood
Like
Insects,
Until
They
Die.
We
Can’t
Know
Why
Savages
Hold
Sway,
And
Others
Cheat
And
Lie,
And
Commit
Humanities
Crimes
Down
Through
Time.
Hope
Is
Thin,
But
Every
Day,
I strive
To
Understand
The
Harsh
World
Of
Warlike
Man,
And
I seek
Grace
In
Every
Strangers
Face.

Beware

The
Blur
Of
Sun
Peers
Down
Through
A
Thick
Tissue
Paper
Sky
Hazed
With
Smoke.
The
West
Is
Ablaze
With
Decades
Of
Delays,
Neglect,
And
Failure
To
Inspect
Or
Maintain,
And
There
Is
No
Rain.
Nature
Will
Burn
It
All
Away,
And
Today
Her
Warning
Breath
Comes
This
Way,
In
A
Heavy
Smudge
Of
Ashen
Grey.

Visible

In
The
Pre-dawn
Sky,
Six
Miles
High,
The
Red-eye
Coast
To
Coast
Blinks
Forward,
Two
Hundred
Plus
Souls
Aboard.
I’m
Down
Here,
But
Was
Once
Up
There,
Strapped
In
A
Chair,
In
The
Illusion
Of
Going
Somewhere.
It
Seems
I had
To
Stay
In
One
Place
Long
Enough
To
Know
An
Inner
Space.
I now
Travel
With
Head
And
Hand,
While
Here
I stand,
My
Feet
On
Solid
Sand.

Party Animal

I’m
No
Extrovert,
But
I can
Briefly
Fake
It
And
Attend,
Though
Psychologically
Naked,
Functions
Where
I’m
Required
To
Perform
Some
Accepted
Norm
Of
Interaction.
I’m
Poorly
Socialized
And
Certainly
No
Prize,
I’m
Arrogant
And
Aloof
And
My
Conversations
Are
The
Proof.
Drink
In
Hand,
I blithely
Say
Bizarre
Things
Nobody
Understands.
I’m
Radical
In
Ways
That
Earn
No
Praise
And
Soon
I can’t
Take
Any
More,
And
Bolt
For
The
Door.
Fie!
Here’s
An
Invite
For
Friday
Night,
And
I may
Go,
Hoping
Folks
Won’t
See
What
Its
Costs
Me
To
Not
Appear
A
Nut,
And
To
Keep
My
Mouth
Shut.

Balanced
On
The
Cusp
Of
Sagittarius,
Scorpio
Dies.
Loves
Elusive
Archer
Wields
A
Crossbow
And
Dart
To
Pierce
The
Distant
Heart,
Light
Years
Away.
In
Silent
Resistance,
Stars
Struggle
And
Revolve
In
Constant
Ardor,
Reaching
Always
For
The
Indifferent
Moon.

Apart

The
Torn
Cuticle
Of
Desire
And
The
Pinching
Shoe
Of
Lust
Haunt
Mister
Meyer,
Who
Fears
To
Step
Into
The
Fire.
He
Longs
To
Warm
His
Icy
Hands,
But
Understands
There’s
Pain
In
Heat,
And
He
Must
Retreat.
He
Strives
To
Rearrange
His
Frail
Yearnings,
And
Avoid
The
Burning
Scar
Of
Rejection,
Should
He
Display
Affection,
Or
Any
Part
Of
His
Heart.
Mister
Meyer
Hopes
Passion
Fades,
And
He’ll
Forget
Reckless
Mistakes
He
Never
Made.
Sad
To
Refuse
Any
Chance
To
Choose
Loves
Charms
In
Someone’s
Arms.
Mister
Meyer
Will
Never
Show
He
Doesn’t
Know,
And
That’s
How
His
Life
Will
Go.

The
Walking
Japanese
Woman
Ambles
By
All
This
Year,
Flip
Flops
On
Tiny
Feet,
Phone
At
Ear.
Today,
In
A
Frilled
Blouse
Of
Shocking
Pink,
She
Flowers
Through
The
Early
Street,
Soon
Passing
In
The
Other
Direction,
A
Fuchsia
Confection,
Small
Stepping,
And
Orientally
Neat.
