Suddenly hot.
Yesterday
A welcome breeze
Blew through
The canyon
From the east.
Today heat
Surges in
From the west.
Tree leaves
Hang disconsolate,
Birds
Seek the shade.
On the patio
In my container
Garden, Gazania
And Indian Blanket,
Mexican Primrose
And African Lilies
Raise brave faces
To the sun.
No rain will come.
They live
On precious water
I dole out by hand
To make
The desert bloom.
